Deck Spotlight: Ultimate Arc

Hey guys! Trying out something new as we're getting ready for the Buddy Allstars special booster box.

North American Continentals was just a few weeks ago, and I'm really proud of both of my friends who came in top 3. So as a special event, I'm going to review their winning decks and give my $0.02 on them. Without further ado...
Let the trash talking begin.

First Thoughts

Ah, Joel. Always going for that maximization play, but still covering your own ass. This is what I would consider to be a greedy but efficient deck, running only 3 of key spells like Ultimate Buddy and Makings of a Great Dragon. These cards are good, but you never really want to see more than 1 of them at any given time. Running 4 often has flooding issues, but with enough bad luck running 3 might cause you to miss drawing into them. Fortunately Joel's luck is quite good so the numbers are solid. The great thing that mixed Size 3 Ancient World decks have is that no matter what Size 3 you draw into, you can play it and make it work. Unlike Sieger, in which case you must draw Sieger. The right Sieger. Every Sieger.

Actually, since Arc-en-ciel can't be searched out with Makings, you probably can get away with only 2 in main and 3 in the 60.

Speaking of the devil himself, Arc-en-ciel is a very degenerate card that only scumbags play. Ahem. Kudos to Joel for immediately catching the combo after years and years of riding the lonely Ultimate Inferno train. Those long sad hours have finally paid off in the form of 12000/2/6000 with Double Attack, Soulguard, and immunity to destruction and bounce effects. Also grabs a Size 1 and Size 2 on destruction. Each destruction. Yeah what the hell. Lose a soul, salvage 2 cards from drop zone? When half the monsters in this deck are effectively spells? Joel how in the world did you scrub out and lose with this disgusting deck?

This is how the deck gets away with running a bunch of 1-ofs, because Arc consistently gets them back for you. But I'm actually rather shocked I don't see any Lucus Visions in this list. I suppose the card does nothing if you don't have a Size 3 out but that rarely happens. It's basically a better version of Makings of a Great Dragon, plus it can grab Arc, plus you can grab it back with Arc, so you can play Arc again and then grab it back again and then it goes on and on and on and on.

Lucus Vision also grabs any Size 3, so yeah. Cycling Omnidai. Fun.

Suvarious is the unsung hero of this deck. The main deal is that you can cast him for free (not that you're hurting on gauge, mind you, since you will always recycle Forbolka) and he has 3 crit, meaning OTKs are a very real possibility with the 4 Size 0 monsters you run.

I think the only issue with this deck is that it could use a bit more draw power. Since you can recurse Forbolka for an eternity, I think adding some Buddy Help instead of Makings will do more good than harm. You can always shove it into Suvarious's soul if you really need to.

Changes

-1 Makings of a Great Dragon
-1 Rock Dragon Emperor, Vragos

+1 Buddy Help
+1 Phantom Dragon Emperor, Lucus Vision

Sideboard

-1 Makings of a Great Dragon
+1 Buddy Help

Judgement

Verdict: Excellent deck.

If you like this kind of stuff, who knows, maybe this will be a thing.
