Chess

I'll make this quick and painless.

Chess sucks.

King the Dominator
More like King the
Dominated
It's hard to believe that this was ever meant to be a thing. It hurts so much. The stats are abysmal, yeah, but that's the same as every other Generic set. What hurts the most is that even the Chess-specific stuff is bad. That's when you know you've failed as an archetype. King the Dominator is so expensive for basically crap. 3000 defense? On a Size 3? You can pop his soul with Hidden Crossbow. That's pitiful.

There is one thing interesting about Chess, and that's definitely Checkmate. An Impact card that costs nothing and can possibly give you a win. You have to attack with a stand Chess piece, and they can negate it - but you can use a spell negate, since Checkmate creates a new Play Timing for the attack (same with Drill Bunker, which is where the ruling came from). So in other words, Checkmate is a viable winning plan if you use a World that can rush your opponent to 4 life quickly and also pack a spell negate.

Checkmate
You lose
Checkmate's greatest strength over stuff like Gargantua Punisher is the ability to use it without either gauge or a spell negate and still win - if you're lucky.

Danger World is a very good choice. They have great weapon selection, a vast assortment of negates to draw the game out, and even an Impact that lets you mill your deck out to hit the drop zone requirement quicker. You can more or less play your game without calling too many monsters and just using your big bad weapon, going for the Checkmate + Fanged Dragon Declaration play when the time is right.

Chessenergy
Use NGNL Tactics
Another option to consider is Hero World. By using lots of strong Transform/Ride options (the Gaigrander line sounds very optimal), you can get good item strength without having dead draws - since every Ride/Transform is also a monster you can call. They also have access to good draw spells, Hyper Energy, and their spell negate, Or So the Dream I had Went.

Magic World is always an option, and while they don't have a lot of pressure they make it up with hand hand and hand. If you need help stalling, remember that Chessenergy + Control Unit, Suppression Queen makes for a 8000/2/7000 Counterattack card that can't easily be removed.

Katana World's spell negate is easier to use since it pays out in life. I don't know how you'd make that deck work out, I guess you could play trap-based and wait for your opponent to misplay. You'd have trouble milling though.

Legend World also has a spell negate. Fairies maybe?

That's about all I can help you with now. Good luck and d5.
