Fairy

So, is this the closest I'll get to moe girls in Buddyfight for now?

Fairy was not really a thing before when the only member of the archetype was Sylph (correction, tfw she's not a Fairy), but now we've gotten a lot of dedicated Fairy support to make the deck tick. Like Olympus, Fairy cards often have other archetypes attached (usually Hero or Wydar Sarkal) so they're best splashed around, but there's also enough dedicated Fairy support to base a majority of the deck around this archetype.

Like Heroes, Fairy is very weapons-based and play around having different weapons in your arsenal; unlike Heroes, Fairy is more focused drop zone support and grabbing advantages from that.

Fairy King, Oberon
A Midsummer Night's
Dream
We'll start with the Fairy King, Oberon. He's the main boss of the archetype, a Size 3 9000/2/7000 monster with Double Attack for only 2 gauge. Sounds pretty good already. On top of that, Oberon sports a unique drop-related ability: when you have 7 or more Hero and Fairy cards in your drop zone, Oberon nullifies all abilities of monsters on your opponent's field. No on-play, no continuous, no more Act effects. That's insanely powerful, so Fairy wants to get as many cards into the drop as fast as possible.

(As for Oberon himself, he combos well with Star Bow but you can also afford to call him to the side if you're swinging with either a good weapon or lots of gauge and Prydwen).

One way to get cards into the drop is with Cait Sith in Boots - whenever he dies you get to mill 2. That's fair. To top it off, Cait Sith also has an on-field effect to give your weapon's critical +3 continuously if there are ten or more Fairy in your drop zone. Now, the three really good applications of this are Gugnir (5000/5 with Penetrate), Star Bow (3000/4 can attack through center), and Excalibur (10000/6 with Double Attack). Excalibur is the dream and more or less auto-wins you the game if you can get the pairing off since Excalibur negates shields as well, meaning their only out is to remove Cait Sith before you utterly destroy them.

Dashing in the Moonlight, Red Cap
Border between life
and death
Red Cap is an important negate that Legend World was sorely lacking before. His effect is the same as Barriermaster, Shadowflash from Magic World (and I've already praised that card more than enough). Red Cap does cost more gauge but sports better stats as a result, something that will most definitely prove helpful since Fairy isn't so concerned about rushing but moreso control.

Daoine Shee is moe.

Loyal Unicorn and Dalahast both continue the drop fuel with was effects that add to drop zone. Loyal Unicorn allows you to draw-ditch on-call if you have another Wydar Sarkal/Fairy, improving your and consistency. Dalahast doesn't do that, but simply mills three on-play, speeding up your drop fuel even more.

Carved Stallion of Dreams, Dalahast
Flying toy horses
Once you hit certain thresholds, your deck starts performing a lot better. We've already talked about 7 Hero/Fairy and 10 Fairy, but now 6 Fairy makes Death Summoning Tears of the Banshee a free nuke onto anything. Yeah, it's pretty good. Hitting these card breakpoints is important to getting the advantages your cards need and making sure your hand doesn't stay very slow for long.

I won't forget the PR card, Fairy Land Shoemaker, Leprechaun. This is an interesting case of a really good card that might not have a definitive spot in the deck. Why? Because 4 of your Size 2 slot is taken by Red Cap, and you probably want to fill the rest with Zlatarog for gauge ramp if you're planning on playing a combo deck. Leprechaun is good for beatdown but it's hard to say whether or not Fairies can adequately output the aggression needed for such a deck.

  5. By the way Blaise, since I just got my hands on more Excalibur, what hero would you suggest I splash into the fairy deck aside from the dual fairy/hero attributes or do I really need to? are the weapons with Hero enough to trigger Excalibur consistently? >_<

    1. By default, you would be running Oberon, Daione Shee, Holy Grail, and some manner of weapons for Hero trait. The interesting thing about Fairy is that since they mill so hard, you can actually make do with just about that much.

Although Fairy is probably better as a beatdown deck.

  6. Speaking of which, I'm most excited to get after Great Wind Fairy Sylph when the new packs come out. She's gonna be part fairy now, and comes in 2 effects. You can pull out Excalibur from the drop in the flash if you have Holy grail in hand and 10 heroes in the drop. The other effect, I believe that's situational, but can also work to it's advantage.
