First Thoughts
Austin what in the actual hell is this.
Okay so I'm actually pretty good friends with Austin and we've talked about this multiple times but it's still hard for me to accept. See, when you talk to Austin you're thinking "wow, this guy is really charismatic and nice, seems smart, what a great guy" and then he whips out his decklist and you think some inebriated retard took a D4 and a list of good cards from my site and just started going at it until he got 50 cards. It's gotten so bad that I've accidentally read his name as "Autist Somers" before.
But then he goes and wins some big Buddyfight tournament and then I can't argue with him. Damn this world.
If we go by the article I wrote ages ago about different player mentalities, Austin Somers is occult enough to wear shinto clothes and perform exorcisms. But branding Austin as some random superstitious player is a huge injustice because this guy does his work. He tests like a madman. He pulls out a bunch of numbers out of his ass and makes sure it works after tons of trial and error. He backs his insanity with experience and more importantly proof. He is the mad scientist of Buddyfight, and I would not give that title to any other.
This is his disgustingly beautiful creation.
Let me explain what this deck is supposed to do. The idea is that you search out everything. Absolutely everything. Form a Party into Incubus into Form a Party into Kamil into dual Tiger blades 8 damage Dead End Crush gg. That's how out of the park aggressive this deck can be. In the words of the madman himself, "Orser is just Kosher and Kamil is just Call Brave Machines for the weapons". You actually just treat those monsters as their respective "spells" and make sure you can output as much face damage as possible, even if you need to play over stuff.
Drums are for maximum damage. Omni Drum is especially scary because 2 Incubus plays puts you exactly at enough life to maximize Drum's heinous effect. Both Drums hit for 3 crit and alongside Tetsuya you're going for huge power plays. Brave, Drum with Eisen Tiger and a RPS win is a devastating 13000 4-crit Penetrate. Crazy stuff.
Miserea is also a power play and gets Double Attack without Tetsuya's help, meaning Tetsuya can gift Double Attack to one of your weapons. Maximum damage output in a turn from this deck is something along the lines of 2/2/1/4/3 and you can pump this out with either Miserea or Messiah. Absolutely insane. There's just one problem.
There are 2-3ofs everywhere. Ugly numbers flying across this list. I understand that Form a Party, Continue!, and Hot Springs all search out important targets but I mean, you technically need to draw into stuff. I certainly don't have the luck needed to draw even 4-ofs, but I'm certain Austin is much luckier than I. However, even this list is pushing it in my opinion. If I was building this deck, I would probably try to maximize the damage output and also up the consistency if I can.
The last interesting choice that Austin made was having 4 copies of Quiescence of Cassiade between mainboard and sideboard. He told me that this was definitely a meta decision as too many decks can rush nowadays, but I actually think differently. Rather, I think that this deck is one of the best aggro decks out there right now and that this deck has the clock to beat. Rather than adding options to try and fight aggro, why not just optimize your own aggro to a ridiculous state? I do appreciate Austin's thoughtfulness in making sure he has options in every situation.

Changes
The main change to the deck that I would make is definitely an improvement in my opinion. This is because Incubus has another powerful synergy that Austin didn't utilize (or rather, he didn't believe in): Oracle of Tubal. You can use Incubus to hit yourself to less than 5 life and then dump everything and draw more cards, drastically increasing your odds of hitting a game-winning combo. Of course you could also draw dead cards but that's just how card games work: the more you draw, the better your odds of winning.
So here's the way I'd take this deck to the absolute maximum aggressive level.
-2 Brave, Drum

-2 Brave, Drum
-3 Quiescence of Cassiade
+2 Dead End Crush!
+3 Oracle of Tubal
Sideboard
-1 Dead End Crush!

+2 Quiescence of Cassiade
Judgement
Verdict: Greedy but powerful deck
This deck requires a very skilled pilot and Austin Somers was definitely the man for the job. Congratulations on your performance!

I'm noticing a trend with alot of top decks that we see 2 and 3 ofs a ton because space is so tight after staples. Having enough options in the main board is important to and I think his deck really encapsulates how to have a good variety of options while still maintaining consistency.
ReplyDelete2/3 offs are fine in dungeonn mix, there are 8 searchers between incubus and form a party. As well as continue and hot springs which search the drop.
DeleteBlaise, you forget that Form a Party only search an Adventurer, thus making you can't search out Twin Tail Incubus.
ReplyDeleteBut, there's no problem if what you meant by "Form a Party into Incubus into Form a Party into Kamil into dual Tiger blades 8 damage Dead End Crush gg. " is we must have an Incubus in-hand before.
That's exactly what I meant. Sorry for lack of clarity.
Deleteform a party into cotinue into incubus into form a party. Late mid game this is a fine play.
Deletehey he is the champion! gratz to Austin, terrific deck!
ReplyDeleteThere's quite a few changes. I'll be covering it when the list comes out.
